3 Types of Wood Bird Feeders

Sometimes, getting back to nature is as simple as adding something special to your life. Helping nature does not necessarily mean spending a lot of money or time, but by adding a tool to our life that also adds a tool to nature. There are many people that own, display, and utilize wood bird feeders on their property. These wood bird feeders are easy to install, and the rewards you get in return is well worth the minimal price. Of course, those fine feathered friends sure do appreciate your effort. Many people do not realize that birds seem to tell each other where good, steady food is. You can have a yard full of beautiful music - and they are to bad on the eyes either - with as little as one wood bird feeder.

Of course, there are many types of bird feeders. Finding the one that is right for you usually takes a bit of trial and error though. Some bird feeders need to be specially made to keep the nemesis of every bird lover away from the food - squirrels. Other times, you may need a special bird feeder to allow or deny larger birds access to that wood bird feeder. Each home is different, but in time, every bird lover will find what they need to safely feed those birds with the minimal of obtrusive actions.

1. One basic style of wood bird feeder that is common in every climate, environment, and yard is the plantation bird feeders. These are shaped similar to a house with slots on opposite sides that let the bird feed pass through to the feeder part. There is a place for the birds to roost while they are eating as well. There is usually a slanted roof that offers a bit of protection for the birds and the bird feed. These can be hung from a porch, a bird stand, or a tree. These can also be setup on a post, on a limb, or on anything that is solid. This is a basic design and usually has numerous variations.

2. There are wood bird feeders that look similar to a boxed screen with legs. These are setup like a miniature picnic table and go great on tables, patios, or benches. Some people make special housing units for these. Usually, people will use these because it offers a closer looks at the birds as they are feeding. Of course, this offers no protection from other hungry critters, or the elements.

3. Now, I like the fly-thru wood bird feeders. These are similar to the leg bird feeders mentioned above, except these beauties have a roof. These are like mini gazebos for those birds. These are great for hanging, posting, or placing on a table. The only downside to these is that it doesn’t offer much protection for the seed during high winds.

Everyone has a favorite style of wood bird feeder. Everyone of them adds something special to your home, and those fine feathered friends. You can either purchase your wood bird feeders, or if you feel crafty, you can make your own. There are many popular styles to choose from. When you consider purchasing a wood bird feeder you are providing a beneficial service not only to the birds, but to yourself as well.
