Squirrel Shock Bird Feeder
There’s nothing quite as relaxing as enjoying those beautiful birds in the backyard. Once they’ve moved in and become comfortable they can provide hours of entertainment but bird feeders can create problems with other creatures that aren’t as wanted. A squirrel shock bird feeder can eliminate these problems.
It’s not that squirrels aren’t cute but you don’t want to loose the value of the feeders by having them taken over by the squirrels. And there are other rodents such as mice and rats that can become not only pests but real problems. It’s a balancing act that can be a bit of a challenge at first.
You don’t want other creatures feeding on the bird feeders because the birds won’t come yet squirrels can be a great addition to the back yard. But you don’t want any of the other nasty rodents at all!
There are many different feeder styles that are designed to keep squirrels away. The shock systems have gained popularity in the last few years but here are just a few of the other options available to you.
1. Tube Feeder – are very common and when it comes to the squirrel it’s all in the perch which is weight sensitive. When a squirrel steps onto the perch it spins and the squirrel falls off.
2. Double Mesh Platform Feeder – is great for al birds but it discourages the squirrels without harming them. The food is underneath a grid that the birds can easily access with their beaks but the squirrels cannot.
3. Electric Squirrel Shock Feeder – These are also sensitive to the weight of the squirrel and when the squirrel steps on it is delivered a sharp but harmless sting that discourages it.
4. Roller Feeder – has two full length stations that have a transparent cover that is also weight sensitive. When the squirrel jumps onto it the barrel rolls over and the squirrel falls down.
5. Ring Loaded Feeder – looks like a breeze but the minute the weight hits the spring the dome snaps closed and when the rodent is gone it reopens. Talk about a game of cat and mouse.
6. Brome Squirrel Buster – has a cage around the seed which keeps the squirrels at bay and because the cage is weight sensitive when the squirrel steps onto the perch the shroud instantly drops over the seed so it can’t be accessed.
7. Wild Bills Electric Squirrel Shocker – also works for raccoons. The birds love this type of feeder because they quickly gain a sense of security. The shock is harmless but enough to send the unwanted creatures scurrying off.
It’s not that you don’t want to enjoy everything Mother Nature has to offer. It’s just that you want to keep the birds in an environment where they feel safe and comfortable so they’ll stick around awhile.
