Country Birdhouses

If you already have a touch of country in your life good for you because country is relaxing and revitalizing and it’s also a great addition to that back yard. Have you considered what your options are for country birdhouses?

So many beautiful birds and so many awesome bird houses to choose from all with a little bit of country flare all in a variety of sizes and shapes to entire your local bird population.

You can choose from a terrific selection of pre-built houses from some great online sites or you can decide to order a kit and build your own. Then you also get to do the decorating which can be a lot of fun.

The kits come complete with everything you need to finish the project including the paint but you can always visit your local craft store and add some other colors if you like.

Country is a wonderful look and it’s a lot of fun to accomplish. There’s nothing boring about it! And there’s always a personal element attached to it.

There are many different species of birds. Some are known as cavity dwellers because they nest inside a hollow trunk of a tree or any other cavity they can find. A birdhouse is a fairly good simulation of a cavity and so these types of birds generally hone in on the houses.

It is important that when you are preparing the box that you know the dimensions needed for the species you are trying to entice. Birds are much like people with no hard rules about where they will live but a comfort zone that tends to draw them. So build for the bird you want to move in.

Wood is the perfect material for houses. Plywood works just great but woods like pine, fir, or cedar look much nicer. You can also use scraps of lumber to build your houses. Just make sure the wood has not been treated with any chemical preservatives.

Place the birdhouse in a location that remains shaded. The north side of a tree always works well. You want the house shaded because that’s where birds will tend to look for natural homes. Otherwise their eggs can become too hot and be destroyed.

Your birdhouse should be easy to open so that you can remove old nesting material each spring. Always wear protective gloves as there can be parasites present. There also might be some interesting creatures hiding in the nest such as the occasional rodent, squirrel, or even snake.

That’s it. It’s really not that difficult at all is it? Just keep “cave” in mind and you’ll have designed the perfect birdhouse. And when it comes to the exterior it’s time to put on your creative hat and get “country.”

You can have plenty of fun and why not get really creative and use materials that the birds can also use to help build their nests. For example how about a country bow made from rope. The birds will slowly work away at the rope for their nest too. Think natural!

Your country birdhouses are going to look fabulous in your backyard!
