Bird Feeder Posts

There’s nothing quite as enjoyable as enjoying your local tenants that live in the back yard. That is you resident bird population. And Bird feeder posts are a great way to be able to provide plenty of feeding opportunities.

There are many different styles of feeders on the market and the post style is a very convenient style that’s easy to install and also very affordable. No fuss no mess here. And it’s affordability means that you can set up plenty of feeders stations around your yard.

Placing feeders in places that the birds will use can be more difficult than one might think. Finding that elusive perfect spot can drive you nuts. Or you find it and then there’s no where to fasten it. That’s where the posts can become very handy.

Poles start at around $20 so almost anyone can afford and they go up from there depending on the bells and whistles. Price varies depending on the feeder portion of the pole. Make sure the pole you buy is well built. The cheapest poles may not be adequate for a larger heavier feeder so be sure you match feeder to pole correctly.

Make sure you choose a pole that is the right size and type of feeder for the type of birds that live in your area. Yes they can be fussy! Small feeders can quickly be installed. Larger ones might need a little more attention to ensure they are properly supported.

There are four main types of feeders on the market – the tubes, the hoppers, the platforms, and the specialty feeders – so you can choose according to the type of birds you have in your region and your needs.

Tube Feeder – is a long cylinder tube that has perches along the base where the feeding ports are. Usually it is filled with sunflower seeds. Squirrels and other creatures can’t steal the seed because of the design. Woodland birds like the chickadee, woodpecker, finch, titmice, and nuthatches all like this type of feeder.

Hopper Feeders - are available in a wide range of styles and sizes including the traditional barn style. It doesn’t have to be filled often. Big and small birds all like this style of feeder and the use of the pole gives you great flexibility.

Platform Feeder - Is a flat box that can be set on the ground, put on a pole, hung, or mounted in a tree. They are and excellent choice for birds that feed on the ground such as juncos, doves, and sparrows as well as a variety of other birds but they also work very well on a pole for the birds that like to get up off the ground.

Specialty Feeders – include feeders like the oriole and hummingbird feeders and are available in all kinds of shapes and sizes including some exceptionally beautiful art glass feeders.

So with all those feeder choices all that is left to do is choose the bird feeder posts that will work best.
